Fast, light and efficient – Lundell delivers panelized systems for YIT
The production of panelized systems for modular buildings has started at Aulis Lundell Oy's Lohja factory during autumn 2022.
The design and conceptualisation of the manufacturing process and the preparation of the work phases have been carried out alongside other factory activities during 2020-2022. The manufacturing of panelized systems started in 2020 in pilot projects and special buildings, and then progressed to various building technology tests in 2021. The new modular building collection was launched at the FinnBuild exhibition in Helsinki in October 2022.
– The need for more flexible housing and construction is growing both in Finland and in the neighbouring countries. This is now driving our production of modules and prefabricated panelized systems, says Leena Lundell, chairperson of the board, about the construction trend.
Steel-based panelized systems make construction more efficient
– We recently delivered the first panelized systems for one apartment building to YIT, Finland’s largest construction company. YIT, like other leading builders, has been prompting us to develop the concept. Cooperation with leading builders has led to faster production of modular products, which is why we have made significant growth investments in our factory and our production technology recently, says Leena Lundell.
The large-scale panelized systems for the outside wall of the apartment building will be covered with architect-designed façade cladding. The steel frame offers plenty of possibilities for this. Deliveries to construction sites are easy, because, compared to other materials, steel-based panelized systems are light to handle – even though their load-bearing capacity is superior.
The panelized systems and modules are the result of continuous product development.
– We are well placed to increase our module production, as we have been manufacturing steel-based construction products for more than 40 years. Our product development is like evolution – when customers tell us about new needs, we design a solution and start manufacturing. At the same time, all the old classic products remain in the range, says Leena Lundell.
